Fear can be a crippling thing. It is one of the most common struggles in life, and it comes in many different forms. Whether you’re afraid of how your day will go or how much money you have, fear takes up space in our thoughts and lives that we could otherwise use for something else.

Fear manifests itself physically too – it causes us to sweat, shake, tremble, get headaches or even vomit! We know how debilitating this feeling can be, but there are ways to overcome fear biblically.

There are many ways in which we can overcome fear biblically. One way is by feeding our faith instead of fear and overcoming it. Another way is through prayer – because

God always hears our prayers and loves to answer them! Let consider the scriptures below to give us a more precise way to overcome fear and anxiety

  1. GOD HAS STRICTLY WARNED US AGAINST FEAR

Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it come.  Proverb 3:25 (KJV)

Fear is one of life’s most dreadful emotions. A dreaded event can be imagined or real, but both are excruciatingly painful. Disturbing news or reports of danger can cause panic and fear but God desires that we be in a state of absolute calmness.

God has strictly ensured us of our safety and wellbeing and we need not be afraid of any circumstances that may arise.

Fear is dangerous and causes us to lose our confidence in God. We can only overcome fear when we know that God has made all provisions for us and does not need us to be afraid of anything.

  1. TRUSTING IN GOD COMPLETELY

In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do to me. – PSALM 56:11 (KJV)

When we completely put our trust in God, fear is conquered. Trusting in God is beyond just affirming it; it is the ability to hold on to his word no matter the pain.

God’s word is sure, what he has said concerns your life will come to reality but you must learn to trust in him, because pain may likely come before gain.

  1. LET LOVE RULE OVER YOUR LIFE

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. – 1 JOHN 4:8 KJV 

There is no fear in love. We must learn to love God, ourselves, and the around us. Perfect love casts out any atom of fear in us. The lack of love clear states that we are not in an intimate relationship with God.

God is love and in him is no fear as his children we are not expected to be afraid of any challenge that may confront us. Fear will always fade off in the presence of perfect love.

  1. ENCOURAGE YOURSELF WITH GOD’S WORD

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. – JOSHUA 1:9 (KJV)

Fear brings delay, defeat, and discouragement most times because we live in a world full of chaos but God wants us to use his words to encourage ourselves in any situation on daily basis.

We have to be strong and courageous to confront the battles of life with God’s word.

  1. YOU ARE REDEEMED

But now, this is what the Lord says he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. – ISAIAH 43:1 (NIV)

God speaks to His people as their creators. He is our creator has full access to affairs that pertains to wellbeing here on earth. God has urged us not to be afraid for he has redeemed us from all things because we are his own.

God has paid the price for everything we need, all we need is to trust in him and stay connected to his will for our life. 

  1. DON’T GET WORRIED ABOUT TOMORROW

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. – Matthew 6:34 (NIV)

Christ urges us not to be worried about tomorrow, this shows that God has a plan for our daily lives.

We want him to live on his daily plans for us. This doesn’t mean we should have plans for self but rather we should acknowledge him as our ultimate source.

Fear makes us worry about what we will eat, drink, wear, etc but God wants us not to worry about anything.  Even when we make our plans, we must know that our plan can fail but he can not.

  1. GOD’S PRESENCE IS ALWAYS WITH YOU

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.  PSALM 23:4 (KJV) 

This scripture indicates that despite the discouragement, challenges, and pains that may surround you, God is by your side.

His presence is always with you in the church, school, work, or office; you don’t need to be afraid of what will come your way. God is with you always.

  1. GOD IS YOUR COMFORT

In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul. PSALM 94:19 (KJV)

Nobody wants to be worried all day. We all want to be able to live freely, without having to worry about anything. However, as we face the various pressures that life throws at us, few of us can live easily and happily. Fear comes from our thoughts for life.

From the verse, we can see that only God can comfort us when the thoughts of life have completely overwhelmed us. Only God can give us joy and peace.

  1. FEAR GOD INSTEAD

Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. – PSALM 112:1 (KJV)

We are expected to fear God rather than man or any circumstances. When we fear God and do his will, we don’t need to worry about the issues of life. Things will fall in place for those who fear God. 

  1. SEEK GOD’S STRENGTH

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. ISAIAH 41:10 KJV

Only the strength of God can help us overcome fear. We need his strength to confront issues that trouble our souls.  He will help and keep us from all harm.

God is always ready to have you if you can go to him with your fears.

Remember the promises of Jesus when he was leaving for his father’s Kingdom? He said I would send you the Holy Spirit, which will comfort and strengthen you.

Jesus knows you will come across fear, which was why he promised you and me the Holy Spirit.

The Bible recorded that when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples of Jesus Christ, the boldness to stand and preach in front of the multitude descended on them.

They have the boldness to talk and preach about the Lord Jesus Christ even in the face of death.

  1. Go To God’s Hand and Hold On:

In the presence of God, there is fullness of Joy. Psalm 12:6

Also, PS91:1-8 says, He that dwelleth in the secret place of the highest shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.

If you would like to have God, increase your boldness, eliminate any form of fear in your life. Run into God’s hand and hold on.

  1. Embrace Love:

Among all the commandments that God gave to humans, his disciples came to ask Jesus, which is the greatest commandment.

Jesus said unto them that love is the greatest commandment.

When Jesus was about to leave, he told his disciples that they should love one another as he has loved them.

  1. Give your anxiety to Jesus

What is that particular thing you are worried about?

Let Jesus bear the burden for you. Could it be money, health, etc., let Jesus bear the burden for you?

Jesus said, come unto me, all ye that are heavily laden, I will give you rest.

Whatever type of fear you may be encountering, always remember that it’s a result of your actions.

In this case, watch out for that particular attitude or action that brings fear into your life and ask God to eradicate it for you.

Faith is the evidence of things not seen. You can replace your fear with faith.

Start telling yourself that you can overcome that fear. Start declaring yourself that God’s promises will get fulfilled in your life.

  1. Seek Godly Counsel

Move with people that will place you on the correct part. Seek their counsel and prayers.

Remember what Jesus said? The effectual fervent prayer of the righteous availeth much.

Pray For God To Give You Courage: Only God is the answer. Ask him to give you the courage to overcome your fears, and you will see yourself doing that thing which you think you can’t do.
